From Abbey to Ruin. Titchfield was founded in 1232 before it was surrendered to Thomas Wriothesley, the First Earl of Southampton who converted the abbey into his residence, Place House, by 1542. In 1781, Place House was demolished to create a romantic ruin. (click on image to enlarge)
